NHS England and Improvement and the North West Leadership Academy and Leadership and Lifelong Learning Team are co-designing and developing a simple and practical toolkit that takes team leaders and their teams through a journey to develop and enhance their health and wellbeing.
The toolkit is being developed based on from feedback from the Health and Wellbeing Framework engagement events and builds on the Healthy Leadership Framework. Stakeholders have asked for a simple tool to help frontline leaders/managers and their teams engage with and embed a wellbeing culture in their setting.
There are two opportunities to engage in shaping and testing the toolkit, all feedback will then be used to finalise design and content ahead of launch in October 2022.

Pilot Teams (May – June 2022)
NHSE/I are also looking for team leaders and their teams who would be interested in piloting the toolkit over a period of 8 weeks starting in May to conclude in July 2022. They will be asked to provide feedback at the end of the teams health and wellbeing journey. There would be the opportunity for 9 teams to pilot from across a range of sectors including health and social care, charitable, housing, etc.
Commitment and requirement to the pilot would need:
- Team leader or designated team member to ‘hold the process’ for the team to work though the team journey
- Meet regularly as a team (every 2 weeks)
- Review and complete parts of the HWB Team journey
- Gather data insights to understand your teams’ current health and wellbeing needs
- Plan and start on actions that are key areas of focus
- Prepare and undertake the Healthy Leadership self-assessment and team assessment
- Reflection and action planning
- Take part in an evaluation process – meet with the evaluator at the start and end of the HWB journey (1 hour each session via virtual platform)
It is anticipated that the time involvement of pilot teams would be 3.5 to 5 days, however this could increase depending on the number of domains the team decide to work on.
